A Thanksgiving Thank-You from Southern Roots Vegan Bakery

Tonight, the mixers are quiet.

Our ovens are resting, our team is home with their people, and there’s a little notes for blogs that I want to write that can wait until after the holiday. Before we all unplug for a minute, I wanted to sit down and tell you something simple:

Thank you.

Thank you for every time you’ve trusted our family bakery with your moments this year—big ones, quiet ones, “we made it through another week” ones.

When Marcus first went plant-based and I started rewriting my childhood recipes at the kitchen table, I never imagined we’d be here: shipping boxes across the country, feeding offices and classrooms, and seeing “Southern Roots Vegan Bakery” scribbled on sticky notes on fridges we’ll never get to see in person.

But here we are. And it’s because of you.

On this Thanksgiving eve, here’s who I’m especially grateful for outside of our family:

The repeat gifters
You’re the ones whose names I recognize in our order queue. You send donuts and cookies to your friends, then come back a month later to send them to your coworkers, then to your cousin who just had a baby. You’re the reason our “award-winning” moments matter at all—because you keep coming back.

The parents and caregivers
You write us messages like, “My child finally got to eat the same dessert as everyone else,” and I have to sit with that for a minute. You tell us about dairy and egg allergies, nut allergies, plant-based kids who don’t want to feel “different” at the party. You’re the heartbeat behind our decision to keep everything dairy-free, egg-free, and nut-free as we can. You remind us that dessert can be relief as much as it is celebration.

The office heroes
The HR pros, office managers, admins, team leads, and exec assistants who quietly keep the whole place running—and still find the energy to order treats for everyone else. You’ve trusted us with team offsites, all-hands, appreciation days, and “we hit the goal” mornings. When you tell us, “These donuts changed the tone of our whole meeting,” that’s a win we carry with us all day.

Our San Antonio community
We are both born and raised here. From farmers markets to TV segments to partnerships with organizations like the San Antonio Food Bank, you’ve been cheering us on since long before we were shipping nationwide. Every time a local order comes through—from Alamo Heights to Cibolo—I feel like someone down the street just knocked on our door.

Our distant-but-close family online
You found us through friends, or corporate gifts, or a Instagram Post or TV spot, and now you’re part of our story. You send prayers for us in the order notes. You DM us pictures of your kids with chocolate on their faces. You recommend us in group chats we’ll never see. Your words reach us, even when we’re buried in flour.

And, quietly, I’m grateful for our own little circle too—our team members who show up early, create content, stay late, and treat your orders like they’re packing a box for someone they know. Our son and cousins who were our first employees. The family members who have stepped in to help when we’re in “thousands of treats in a week” mode.

Next week, we’ll put our aprons back on and step into the next season—holiday gifting, office parties, cross-country care packages. We’ve got a Black Friday sale ready that I’m genuinely excited to share with you, because it’s built for people who already love us and want to pass that joy along.

But tonight, I just wanted you to hear this from me directly:

If you’ve ever ordered from us, told a friend about us, prayed for our business, or even just bookmarked our site for “someday,” you are part of Southern Roots Vegan Bakery.

I hope your Thanksgiving table—whatever it looks like this year—feels warm, safe, and loved. And if one of our donuts, cookies, cakes, or pies is part of that? Just know there’s a whole family over here feeling honored to be invited in.

From our home to yours: thank you.

Cara
