The Power of Female Foodies: Women Shaping Vegan & Southern Food
Share

Women’s History Month is a sweet reminder to celebrate the superwomen who build, lead, and nourish our communities—moms, founders, chefs, and culture shapers.
In food, women have always set the table. We’re spotlighting three who inspire Southern Roots Vegan Bakery every day:
Mary Lee — Our Forever Muse
Our bakery’s North Star, Mary Lee, is the namesake behind Mary Lee’s Lemon Cake—soft, bright, and lemon-loving (just like her). She embraced eating more plant-based later in life and continues to inspire our team and customers with her joy and resilience.
Leah Chase — The Queen of Creole Cuisine
Chef, restaurateur, and civil-rights icon, Leah Chase turned Dooky Chase’s into a home for community and change. Her life reminds us that food is culture, history, and hospitality—served with courage.
Tracye McQuirter — Movement Maker
Author, nutrition advocate, and founder of 10 Million Black Vegan Women, Tracye has helped thousands explore plant-based eating with practical tools and community support—proof that delicious food can drive healthier habits.
