Not All Fats Are Bad - Here's Why

on

As women, we’re frequently bombarded with information and opinions about the food we should or shouldn’t eat. We know that fats are often labeled as unhealthy, but is this really true? In reality, not all fats are bad! Fats can actually be an important part of a healthy diet, so let’s explore why fats are good for us.

The Different Types of Fats

It’s important to understand that there are different types of fats. Unsaturated fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) are considered to be healthier than saturated and trans-fats. Unsaturated fats can be found in foods such as avocados, nuts, seeds, fish, and vegetable oils. These fats are known to reduce inflammation and improve cholesterol levels when eaten in moderation. Saturated and trans-fats should be avoided because they can raise your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels which increases your risk for heart disease.

The Benefits of Eating Healthy Fats

Eating unsaturated fats is beneficial for our health because it helps keep hormones balanced, provides energy for our cells, strengthens our immune system, and helps us absorb fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E & K from other foods we eat. Additionally, eating healthy fats promotes a feeling of fullness after meals which makes it easier to stick with your nutrition plan and not give into cravings throughout the day.

Incorporating Healthy Fats Into Your Diet

When adding healthy fats into your diet, start by swapping out unhealthy processed snacks with higher quality options containing unsaturated fat like kale chips or nut butter on whole wheat toast. You can also add healthy fats to meals you already enjoy by topping salads with nuts or sprinkling avocado slices onto sandwiches or tacos. Finally, don't forget about adding healthy oils like olive oil or sesame oil into dressings or marinades when cooking at home!

Now that you know more about the different types of dietary fat and their benefits it's time to start incorporating them into your diet today! Eating healthy fats is an effective way to balance hormones while still feeling satisfied throughout the day without cravings getting in your way. Start making swaps where you can today to get on the path toward living a healthier lifestyle!
