We had the good fortune of connecting with Cara Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cara, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
It started from us not knowing where to find vegan desserts quite honestly. I have always been a baker since I was child, I used to be in charge of making all the desserts for family get-togethers so it was only natural for me to start recreating our favorite desserts into a plant based version.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are most proud of being nominated by the top vegan publications for best vegan bakery in the country. That was confirmation for us that all of our hard work and sacrifices were paying off. The journey has not been easy at all but we have never gave up and stayed consistent. The best lesson I would give is to be teachable and have a great network that you can go to and trust the information they provided.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are visiting San Antonio you always check out the riverwalk just to say you did it, but I would encourage to go to the local small businesses. My favorite vegan businesses are Binge Kitchen, Project Pollo and Blissful Burgers. Also Happea Vegan is opening up a plant based deli style shop in Southtown soon and I’m basically camped outside counting the days. All their meats are handcrafted with love!

You will leave with a full stomach and it will open your eyes to how delicious plant based food can be.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are a part of our business ministry at our church All Nations Worship Assembly of San Antonio and one of our members recommended we go to Launch Sa (Launch SA is an entrepreneurship and small business center located in the downtown Central Library in San Antonio) when we went it happened to be one of the last days to apply for their culinary accelerator Break, Fast & Launch (breakfast and lunch) and that program was monumental for our business. It helped us stay on the right track and have our licenses and permits set up which definitely came in handy when we were featured by Tabitha Brown. We definitely recommend anyone find the small business hub in your city if you are looking at starting a business.
