The Sweet Vegan Family Journey

Southern Roots Vegan Bakery started (and operates!) with family in mind. We were inspired to try a plant-based lifestyle after watching a documentary about healthier lifestyles in hopes of trying to find healthier meal alternatives for my grandmother. As a self-taught baker, I wanted to create a vegan dessert that didn’t sacrifice taste and incorporated the iconic Southern flavors I grew up with. After creating a recipe, we started sharing our cake donuts with our family, friends, and community which led to the creation of Southern Roots Vegan Bakery!

Rising Beyond Texas Roots

Southern Roots Vegan Bakery started humbly, selling our delectable treats at local farmers' markets in San Antonio. Our bakery's popularity soared when vegan influencer Tabitha Brown featured us on her "Very Good Mondays" social media segment, praising the red velvet doughnuts to her 2.5 million followers. We quickly felt the momentum and started expanding our reach beyond Texas borders. We started our website and started shipping our southern-inspired treats like Mary Lee’s Lemon cake (named after my grandmother!) across the country. 

Soon after, our desserts caught the attention of national media outlets like Vice, The Washington Post, and Good Morning America, further propelling our ascent in the vegan bakery scene. Each feature in prominent media outlets served as a testament to our dedication to quality and community engagement, solidifying our dreams to make Southern Roots a household name.
